The Remote Terminal Server (RTS) expansion module option enhances the Marathon/STADIA total branch office solution by acting as a LAN gateway for remote and locally-attached terminals. The RTS allows the terminals to access host resources located on the Ethernet LAN without a separate standalone terminal server. Terminal users can cost-effectively share resources on the Ethernet LAN, expanding the applications available to them.Multiprotocol printing features allow users to share printing resources within the majority of LAN/WAN environments. LAT and Telnet support allows LAN-based LAT and UNIX hosts to send print jobs to any printer. Similarly, NetWare file servers can print jobs on any printer in the network via the RTS. For Macintosh users, AppleTalk support allows convenient network-wide access to printing resources. The RTS also allows SLIP-equipped TCP/IP hosts to dial into Ethernet LAN-attached IP hosts over serial lines. This eliminates the need for IP routers since the RTS transparently "routes" packets between the Ethernet and serial lines. SLIP passwords, IP security and forced configuration restricts access as needed.
